Early Science Experience and Exposure for Middle School
Project Dates: - present
Description: American students tend not to choose science as a career path and are even less likely to choose the quantitative sciences, such as biochemistry. The New York Times reports that this is causing the U.S. to loose its dominance in the sciences. This program for middle school students introduces them to the sciences as a profession, and engages them in an active hands-on scientific project. Middle school students will be exposed to research professors in the University setting. This program is based in part on the positive example of Columbus Alternative High School, that allows selected students to take one day a week to work on scientific projects at The Ohio State University.
